What You Should Know About The Sabbath Day?
Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord:
Did God intend for the Sabbath day to be observed forever? Reasonably, anyone who claims to be a believer should care more about obeying the commandments of God than being concerned with the traditions of men, but recent years has shown that not to be the case, regardless to the admonishing of believers to “…let God be true, but every man a liar…” and to obey God rather than man (Romans 3:4 and Acts 8:29). The Sabbath day has been confirmed as an everlasting covenant by both the Old and the New Testament, yet so called believers insists that God has either changed or done away with the Sabbath commandment. From the beginning, the Sabbath was given as a memorial of creation. As the first example of Sabbath keeping, God blessed the Sabbath and rested from all his labor.
- There are many people who do not support Sabbath keeping, yet they insist that they believe in the whole Bible. Why do people attack the Sabbath day?
Sabbath keeping has often been condemned based upon its connection with the Law, which many conclude was done away with; however, Jesus in his own words declared in Matthew 5:17-20:
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least command-ments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Phari-sees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
In short, neither Jesus’ life nor his death was dedicated to the destruction of the Law of Moses or the Sabbath observance. For this reason, it is inconsistent with scripture to conclude that God gave the Sabbath as an everlasting covenant, then, nail it to his Jesus’ cross, only to restore it in the new heaven and the new earth, especially when God declares in Psalms 89:34 that he is not a covenant breaker.
